Planned Outage |
20/07/2005 | ||||||
Upcoming Planned Outage affecting all services Starting on the 5th August 2005 and ending 8th August 2005 all services will have periods of interruption. This work is part of our efforts to continually improve the service we provide and also part of major upgrades to our network including moving our equipment to allow for future expansion and upgrades. This outage will affect all customers and all customers will receive notification via email of how the outage will affect them. The majority of the outage will be on the 5th and 7th August and may last for several hours at a time. This will be during us moving our equipment. Once the equipment is moved any further outages should only last for periods of approximately 10-20 minutes at a time. We will of course endeavour to minimise the quantity and duration of any outages. If all goes well we hope that the work will be completed by the 6th August but we are announcing the maximum time that it may take. We will inform customers by email and post to our website when the work has been completed. We apologise for any inconvenience that this work may cause. |

Email Fraud Attempts - Alert! |
20/01/2005 | ||||||
Over the last few months we have notice a large amount of fraudulent email claiming to be from various online banks and organisations like PayPal. The name that has been given to this type of fraud is "Phishing". The idea behind these emails is that they claim to have some problem or have changed something and you need to log into the address supplied in the email and change or update your details. In doing so you are providing these fraudsters with your details which they will no doubt use to empty your account!! Please DO NOT follow the instructions or links contained in these emails. You may notice some of these emails are identified by our email server and have the following alert inserted into the email Tessalate MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "some.fake.domain.com" claiming to be your.bank.com View a sample of an email trapped by our Mail Server here. (We have disabled the links in the example and PayPal is only one of the online companies targeted) Whilst we make every effort possible to remove, disarm and/or block this type of email we are unable to find and stop them all. They are originating from all over the world including the Far East and Eastern Europe. These countries have very different laws that cover any kind of fraud and some have even less laws which cover ecommerce. Many of the people sending these mails use dial-up connections which makes the source of the email very difficult to pinpoint. Even in cases where we can establish the exact source of these emails, in our experience, dealing with many of the ISP's in the Far East and Eastern Europe is often very difficult and they are usually unable or unwilling to take action against the actual senders. You should treat any email with suspicion when it takes you to a site asking for this information. If it is from your credit card company, why do they need your credit card number and expiry date? Don't then already have this? Likewise, why would your bank need your PIN number, they already know it. Just as if someone walked up to you in the street and asked you for your PIN number, treat emails apparently from your bank with the same care. To be safe, don't click on any links in email messages purporting to be from your bank. Type them in by hand, just as you would when normally doing banking over the internet. This ensures you go to the site you typed in, not some site pretending to be your bank. Walking down the street, would you happily walk into a new shop which happens to have your bank name printed over the door, and give the staff your PIN number? Internet banking is still very safe. But be careful; don't give your personal information to anyone who asks, even if they do look like your bank. |

Quakenet Trusts |
02/09/2004 | ||||||
IRC Eggdrops, BNC's & Shells Unfortunately untill further notice we are unable to offer our proposed Eggdrop and BNC service. This is due to Quakenet having suspended new applications for commercial trusts. The suspension was started Friday 16. January 2004 and is still in effect. Quakenet are unable to give a date for the removal of the suspension at this time. To see the original post on Quakenet forums, click here Until we have a trust with Quakenet we are only allowed 5 connections per IP. Whilst we have many IP's that we could use, its not really feasable for us to offer this as a product and we will not do or be associated with anything that breaks Quakenet rules. This doesnt effect customers with Dedicated servers. You can still apply for a trust on the IP of your server. The suspension only covers commercial trusts. |
