Mail Entering System

All email entering our system starts here and no mail will leave our mail servers until it has been processed by Tessalate MailScanner.

Remote Blacklist Checks

Tessalate use multiple commercial blacklists hosted by other providers. All email is checked against these lists for known SPAM domains and Networks. If a match is found we can either delete the matched email or forward to a dedicated account so no mail is ever lost.

Local Blacklist Checks

Along with the remote blacklists Tessalate use, we also run our own list. Our list is made up of people that have sent SPAM to domains we host.

Mail is also compared to a Whitelist. A whitelist can be used if people that send you mail have had SPAM “issues” in the past. For example many ISP's that don't protect there mailservers will often end up on blacklists. This would cause customers of that ISP to encounter problems with sending mail.

Virus Checks First Pass

Email is the single largest source of viruses. Many viruses that are being sent by email are sent from infected computers with no action from the user of the infected machine. Often viruses have there own email engine and don't even need to use the infected computers email settings. It will however make use of the email addresses contained on the infected computer and then send itself to everyone it can – often appearing to come from the infected computers user or company.

All attachments and files that pass through the Tessalate MailScanner are checked for known viruses and Trojans. We also use multiple virus scanners to check files to maintain total accuracy in detection.

Attachment & Filename Checks

Many Attachments are a source of virus propagation or may you may just want to disallow certain file types.

We also check for dangerous HTML code and scripts that could download files from the internet or execute software on your computer.

Virus Checks Second Pass

A second virus check is then performed on all email.

Clean Mail Leaving System

Mail that has gotten this far through our system and hasn't triggered any of the checks carried out is then forwarded to our secondary mailserver for delivery.

The whole scanning process takes on average between 3-5 seconds from entering the Tessalate MailScanner to being sent to our secondary mailserver.
